North Muskegon Board of Education Seeks Your Opinion
What do people think about North Muskegon Public Schools? That
will be one of several questions that the NM Board of Education
hopes to get answered within the next few weeks. The district is
undergoing a 3-5 year Strategic Planning effort with the
assistance of Mike Washburn, retired superintendent from the
Forest Hills School District in Kent County. Washburn is now a
consultant with the Kent ISD and has helped numerous districts
across Michigan plan for the future.
The decision to develop a multi year strategic plan came about
after discussions at last year’s January board retreat. Our
district is facing many new challenges and we need to know where
the community stands in order to tackle some of these important
issues. Over the past ten years, funding to Michigan districts
has fallen 16% below the rate of inflation. Yet, through it all,
NMPS has strived to maintain programs and high standards for its
students.
The district has done community surveys in the past but this one
will utilize an “on line” survey as well as face to face
discussions from various focus groups. We would like to hear
from everyone past and present who has a vested interest in the
school.
If you would like to participate in a focus group please give
Mr. Weaver a call at 719-4103 or email him at
weaverjo@nmps.k12.mi.us .
We are planning to begin meeting with focus groups beginning
Thursday, February 18th. Watch the district’s web page and newsletters
for announcements regarding the upcoming on line survey which we
anticipate being ready during the week of February 22nd.
