One of the major responsibilities of
the North Muskegon School District is to protect the health and safety
of students in its charge. The position of the district is that the use
and abuse of controlled substances, commonly called drugs and alcohol,
are not only against the law, but harmful to the individual, fellow
students, the school community, and eventually to society.
8220 Alcohol / Drug Use
Under-age alcohol use and illegal drug use and possession are against
the law. Students at North Muskegon Public School shall therefore not
use, possess, sell or exchange illegal drugs or alcohol. This policy
includes the entire academic school year, whether school is in session
or not, and includes all places, whether on school property or
non-school property. Any incident of under age alcohol or illegal drug
use or possession reported by an Officer of the law to the School will
be reviewed. Students suspected of being under the influence of alcohol
on school property or at a school function may be asked to submit to a
breathalyzer test.
Following is a detailed description of prohibited activities:
• Use or possession of any illegal or unauthorized paraphernalia,
medicines, inhalants, drugs or narcotics, including but not limited to
marijuana, heroin, opium, cocaine, LSD, steroids, hallucinogens,
barbiturates and amphetamines.
