Social Studies: Course Descriptions

World History (required)

1 credit                        2 terms                        Grade: 11

Career Pathways:  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6                   Prerequisite:  None

This course takes a comprehensive approach to world history and world events.  This course will examine the cause and effect of human interactions of ancient and modern events.  There will be a strong emphasis on historical analysis through the use of research, writing, and presentations. Frequent integration of modern events and their root causes in history will be important.  Students will use prior knowledge, critical thinking skills, and effective writing techniques when establishing positions on public policy issues in this course.

 

Economics (required)

.5 credit                       1 term                          Grade: 10

Career Pathways:  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6                   Prerequisite:  none

This course is intended to be an introduction to microeconomics and macroeconomics.  The students will gain an understanding of  economics from a domestic and global perspective.  Topics will include scarcity, economic systems, business organizations, supply and demand, measuring the American economy, taxation, international trade, unemployment, inflation, market structures, and competition.
